John Lennon grows 800%
31 July 2006

Liverpool John Lennon airport has grown over 800% in the last ten years.

A study by GVA Grimley revealed 4.4m travellers used the airport last year and the airport's own statistics reveal in June alone under half a million holidaymakers headed through the Merseyside airport an increase of 9%.

The yearly growth was down in part to ten new destinations that have become available from John Lennon.

The longer-term growth four times the national average - has been put down to the different ways Britons now take holidays.

Robin Tudor, the airport's community affairs manager, said: 'The rising number of passengers choosing to use Liverpool is testament to the great range of low cost services right across Europe and soon to include America.

'Increasingly, we are finding that people are now able to take more breaks rather than the historic one holiday a year tradition.'
