1m on DLR to London City
02 August 2006
London City Airport and the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) are celebrating their one-millionth customer to use the service to the airport.
The millionth passenger to use the DLR to the airport since the station opened in December last year was Frans Rippen - who was surprised to receive a bottle of champagne and free return flights with VLM Airlines.
Since the extension opened last year, it is now possible to travel to reach the airport from Bank station in the City of London in 22 minutes.
Tony Thomas, managing director of Serco Docklands, which runs the DLR, said: 'We have reached this milestone after just seven months of operation and demand is continuing to grow.
'This indicates that we are exceeding our customers' expectations in terms of delivering a fast, convenient and affordable link to a key London airport.'
