Curacao opens new airport terminal
02 August 2006

Curacao International Airport has opened a new terminal that will allow 1.6m passengers a year to fly to the island.

The island in the south Caribbean off the coast of Venezuela, which forms part of the Antilles, has now finished the first stage of its 30-year plan to boost tourism.

Clifton Walle, Curacao executive director of tourism, said: 'The need for a new terminal is testimony to the island's growing popularity.

'With the opening of the terminal and future airport expansions, Curacao will be able to provide an even better experience for our visitors.'

The new terminal offers easier access to planes and includes two large interior gardens and an outside plaza area.

Check-in facilities and passport control areas have also both been expanded.

The island, which forms part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, offers a mix of culture, history and traditional beach holidays to visitors.
