Belgium offers fastest service in Europe
02 August 2006
Some of Europe's fastest waiters will be heading to Belgium this autumn for the annual waiter race.
Taking place on 16 and 17 September in the Parc du Cinquantenaire in Brussels the race tests waiting staff's ability to serve quickly but without dropping anything along the way.
During the race around the park, the competitors must carry a tray with a bottle of wine and three full glasses and the first to cross the finishing line with all still in one piece wins Le Trophee Veteran.
Traditionally the race was only open to professional waiters, however in recent years a separate race has been established for amateurs who wish to try their luck.
The weekend of the race also sees the park hosting a festival of gourmet cuisine and music.
Events over the weekend include wine tasting, a market of Belgian fare with foie gras, mussels, cheese and chocolate certain to be readily available and concerts.
