American Airlines halts Chicago-Glasgow flights
08 August 2006

American Airlines is to end flights from Glasgow Airport to Chicago O'Hare International.

The last flight of the summer service will take place on 30 September and it will not restart next year.

The airline said the decision to stop the service came from reduced demand and rising fuel costs, which have led the company to reorganise its transatlantic service to the UK and Ireland.

A Glasgow airport spokesman said: 'We are disappointed at the loss of this summer service to Chicago.'

'However, we are in discussion with other carriers interested in operating year-round from Glasgow to major US cities.'

Travellers in Scotland wishing to head across the Atlantic to the US still have a series of options open to them both from Glasgow and Edinburgh Airport.

The American Airlines summer service between Chicago and Glasgow first began in 1990 and ran from May to September each year.
