Holiday planning made simple

The government is launching a new website to make holiday planning in the UK simpler.
The website, www.transportdirect.info, brings together train and bus time tables as well traffic news and road conditions so holidaymakers staying in the UK can find the best way to head to the nation's tourist attractions.
It also offers details on the best possible routes, times and options when travelling by car, train, bus, coach, tram, ferry, tube or aircraft or a combination of these means of transport.
A Department for Transport spokesman said: 'Building such a sophisticated site has been a major challenge. Over 30m pieces of information are matched to different means of transport.
'Transport Direct covers streets in every city, town and village in Britain. Over 27 million domestic addresses are on the system - as are 2,500 train stations, over 330,000 bus stops, and thousands of timetables. All this information is updated to make sure it remains current and relevant.'
For drivers, the site also offers the fastest or most scenic routes to take, with maps and step-by-step instructions.
