Mums work six hours a day on holiday
10 August 2006

New research shows mothers on holiday spend over half their time away working.

In total, 56% of mums spend 42 hours of a holiday week working.

Tasks that take time away from relaxing include cooking, cleaning and looking after children.

Kevin McAdam, head of travel and Leisure at the Post Office, which carried out the poll, said: 'It looks like it's all work and no play for mums going on holiday this year.

'But family holidays can send stress levels soaring for both parents, so we advise mums and dads to be prepared. If they arrange their travel essentials like insurance and EHICs [European Health Insurance Cards] before they go on holiday, it gives them extra peace of mind should anything go wrong while theyre away.'

The survey also showed that parents spend on average four hours a day on holiday working and one in five say they find holidays a stress.
