Children cost £450 a week for a holiday
10 August 2006

New research shows it costs parents on average £475 a week to take a child abroad on holiday.

The figures from NatWest take into account the cost of accommodation, clothes, flights, treats and activities.

Despite the cost, parents are keen to take their kids overseas as early as possible, with over 50% saying they would take a child under one year old on holiday. Most parents would also continue holidaying with their offspring until they were 16.

The poll also showed that across the nation the cost of taking a child abroad depends on where the parents live with Scotland being the dearest area and the Midlands the cheapest.

Robin Cockburn, of NatWest, said: 'Our research shows that where you come from and where you go to can make a huge difference in the cost of taking your children abroad.

'But with 68% of parents admitting to giving in to their kids requests to treats more easily when on holiday, it seems they arent really helping themselves in keeping down the costs of their trip abroad.'
