Boom expected for Costa del Sol
11 August 2006
Record numbers of tourists are expected on the Costa del Sol this summer.
Hotels on the Spanish coastal resort have reported in July and August they have 3% more guests than a year ago and high levels of hotel occupancy have been recorded over the first half of this year.
Juan Fraile, chairman of the Costa del Sol tourist board, said: 'This year is a good one, from a point of view of hotel accommodation.
'If we focus on the peak season it is clear that this is going to be one of their best since 2000. If last year saw the recovery of the Costa del Sol, this year we are going one step further and starting to grow again.'
The high levels occupancy is also impressive as this summer new hotels and developments have made 3,000 more beds available.
The vast majority heading to the Costa del Sol are from Britain and Ireland.
