Security restrictions spread to Poland, France and Italy
15 August 2006

Passengers flying from Poland, Italy or France to the UK will now be facing tough restrictions on what they can take on board.

While UK security restrictions have been relaxed so holidaymakers can take one small item of hand luggage on flights, authorities elsewhere in Europe are remaining more cautious.

Those flying from Poland to the US, Canada, Israel or Great Britain will only be allowed carry essential travel documents on board with them along with glasses and contact lenses but no cases or solution. Prescription medicine and baby milk are also allowed.

The Polish office of civil airlines also states that all passengers for flights to North America, the UK or Israel should be prepared to undergo a physical body search.

In Italy and France, the restrictions for those travelling to Britain are a little more relaxed matching the new rules in force in the UK.

Small bags will be allowed on board, although liquids and gels, such as drinks, toothpaste or deodorant, will not be permitted.
