Canada says 'don't change travel plans'
16 August 2006
Canada has urged travellers to calm their worries and stick to their travel plans despite the recent scare.
Randy Williams, chief executive of the Tourism Industry Association of Canada, said that the clampdown highlighted the effectiveness of new security measures to protect travellers.
'There is no need to alter travel plans,' said Mr Williams. 'This incident certainly underscores the need for enhanced security measures in the post-9/11 world.
'But it also confirms the effectiveness of the increased vigilance of agencies around the globe in ensuring public safety.'
The UK alert state has already been stepped down since the announcement of a plot last Thursday and travellers can now start taking on some hand luggage.
Mr Williams said that airports and airlines had increased their vigilance in recent years and despite the inconvenience and short-term anxiety, travel should continue.
He added that he was confident that the system will adapt to cope with any changes and urged travellers to maintain their travel plans.
