Usher to make Broadway debut
16 August 2006

R&B star Usher is set to make his Broadway debut in the musical Chicago.

The singer will take on the role of Billy Flynn at New York's Ambassador Theatre from 22 August to 1 October.

He said: 'I have always admired Broadway actors for their showmanship, dedication and focus that goes into performing live on stage every night. Being on Broadway allows you to connect to audiences in a whole new way that's different from music and movies.

'When they asked me to play Billy Flynn in Chicago, I jumped at the chance to be a part of such an amazing production.'

Usher follows in a long line of stars that have taken up roles around the world in Chicago, including Brooke Shields, Melanie Griffith, Patrick Swayze and David Hasselhoff.

This year also sees the tenth anniversary of Chicago opening on Broadway and big line-up of stars is expected to perform in the musical this November to celebrate the milestone.
