More travellers click online to holiday
16 August 2006
New research shows the internet is increasingly where people go to buy a holiday.
A study by Internet Security Systems (ISS) has found the number of travel websites have grown by 25 per cent in the last year.
Furthermore, a paper by Forrester Research last month showed that a third of money spent online goes towards flights or holidays and online travel spending is set to grow by 133% by 2011.
However, with the rise of many travel websites, holidaymakers are being warned to choose where they book carefully.
'Before booking a holiday online, users should try to find out more about the online booking service itself and make sure it is a from a reputable company,' said ISS security technology specialist James Rendell.
Mr Rendell also outlined a further danger that booking with an unknown firm might present.
He said: 'In addition to this, online users need to be on guard and be wary of phishers and their scams - especially during the holiday season. Email users in particular should always be vigilant and caution should be taken when going through emails.'
