Long haul airlines operate 'pretty good service'
16 August 2006
Virgin Atlantic is claiming airlines offering long haul services are performing reasonably well, despite the restrictions brought in following last week's terror alert.
On Channel 4 News, Paul Charles, a director of communications for the airline, explained the biggest delays were being caused by the increased security checks.
He said: 'The longest waits aren't at check-in. Ours has been very efficient as always. Today at Heathrow and Gatwick the delays are still going through the central security search area.'
Mr Charles added there was 'clear blue water' between airlines running short haul services that are still having problems and those that run long haul services.
He said: 'Airlines like Virgin who run long haul services and have managed to operate a pretty good service since last Thursday.'
The UK's major airports are still suffering delays, although the high level of queuing first experienced has subsided.
Airports operator BAA, however, still cautions travellers to leave more time for their journeys and be prepared for the current hand luggage restrictions in place.
