Rubber duck racing in Germany
17 August 2006
Around 7,000 rubber ducks will take to the waters of Germany's River Neckar this October.
The Entenrennen, or Duck Race, offers a prize of around £650 for the fastest duck and brings many spectators and competitors to the town of Tubingen, near Stuttgart, on 1 October.
The yellow rubber ducks pass through the town creating a strange combination of medieval buildings and bath time toys.
Anyone can take part in the race all they have to do is hire a duck and present it before the 1pm deadline.
The ducks are then poured from a van off one of Tubingen's highest bridges to start the race and the stream carries the contestants along to the finishing point.
Over the five years the Entenrennen has been run, tens of thousands of euros have been raised for charities around the world.
