Glasgow airport security gets MSP backing
18 August 2006

A leading member of the Scottish parliament has backed security efforts at Glasgow airport.

Wendy Alexander, member for Paisley North, has praised security staff at the airport for the way they dealt with the increased security alert.

In total, only 9% of flights from Scotland's second airport were cancelled.

Ms Alexander said: 'The security staff at Glasgow Airport have shown tremendous diligence and vigilance in very difficult circumstances.

'They have been under huge pressure lately and they have responded superbly.

'We're very lucky to have such a dedicated group of people watching over us in these troubled times.'

Airports around the UK are now returning to normal after the events of the last week.

Airports operator BAA is still advising people to leave longer for their journeys and remember the limits of check-in luggage size and restrictions on liquids and gels.
