Liverpool fliers can help to cut carbon emissions
21 August 2006
A new scheme has been launched at Liverpool John Lennon Airport to help cut carbon emissions.
Passengers are being invited to contribute to the Last Call scheme that will help both the global climate and the local environment.
Each flight will have a suggested carbon offsetting fee for example £1.19 for a return flight from Liverpool to Paris and money raised will go towards a tree planting project in the Mersey Forest.
The carbon absorbed by the trees planted should over their lifetime match the carbon produced by the air journey.
Ian Broad, a spokesman for Mersey Forest, said: "We are delighted that Liverpool John Lennon Airport is taking its environmental responsibilities seriously.
"We think Last Call is a great scheme and we would actively encourage other businesses to follow its lead."
Similar schemes are also run at Sheffield City Airport, Teesside International Airport and Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield.
