10m in last minute holidays
21 August 2006
New research reveals 10m Britons are planning a last minute holiday.
The growth of booking online has led many to ditch long-term holiday planning in favour of finding bargains at the last moment.
Across the country, those in London are most likely to be booking a last minute holiday with 27% of those from the capital opting to wait for late bargains.
Holidaymakers in Northern Ireland meanwhile were most likely to book earlier with just 15% taking the last minute option.
Sainsbury's Bank, which carried out the research, also raised the issue that many booking late could forget travel insurance.
Robert O'May, travel insurance manager at Sainsbury's, said: 'It can often be a rush when booking a last minute holiday, and this can increase the chances of forgetting to take out insurance.
'Worryingly people are not just adding to the cost of their trips, if disaster strikes and they are not insured, the true cost could end up being much more than the holiday itself.'
