Icelandair launches music festival flights
22 August 2006
Icelandair is hoping to boost the popularity of Iceland with two music events one in London and one in Reykjavik.
The Iceland Airways festival runs from 18 to 22 October with artists already lined up including Kaiser Chiefs, We Are Scientists, The Go! Team, The Cribs and a raft of Icelandic acts.
Six venues around the Icelandic capital Reykjavik are home to the festival including the city's art museum and the basement of the national theatre.
The festival has a reputation for bringing the best out of bands and the after-show parties tend to last until morning.
With the popularity of the festival Icelandair is putting on extra flights so music fans can make the journey.
The London side of the festival will occur on 12 September when Swedish band Love is All, American five-piece Tilly and the Wall, and Icelandic combo Jakobinarina will take to the stage at King's College London as a taster for what Iceland Airwaves has to offer.
