Brits carry on flying
22 August 2006
The recent terror alert has failed to turn Britain off flying, according to a new poll.
A Guardian/ICM poll published today shows 81% of British travellers said the alleged plot would not change their plans to fly.
Only 15% admitted that they would be less likely to fly.
It is thought the increased alert and resulting delays and cancellation could cost UK airports as much as £300m and BA alone had to cancel 1,300 flights in the resultant chaos.
UK airports, however, have now returned to normal although with stricter security checks.
A British Airways spokesman said: 'At the moment it is too early to gauge the reaction to the enhanced security at airports.'
He explained that in two week's time the full effect to the airport would be known when passenger numbers will be announced to the stock exchange.
