Eden Project and Tower of London best for food
25 August 2006
Cornwall's Eden Project and the Tower of London have been named as the best two tourist attractions in the UK to eat at.
A researcher from the Soil Association went to 14 leading attractions in England and Wales from Legoland to Flamingo Land to test the food on offer.
The attractions were rated for their range of healthy food and drink options for children and adults.
The Soil Assocation found 'an almost complete lack of choice for parents who want to enjoy a day out without overdosing themselves, or their children, on sugar, fat and salt'.
'At most of the venues studied junk food still prevails, and fresh fruit and water are harder to find than a free deckchair on Blackpool Beach.'
Peter Melchett, the Soil Association's policy director, said: 'No-one wants to be a spoilsport, but it is the lack of choice of food and drink at most of these attractions that is so depressingly behind the times.
'Not to provide kids with the option of free water on a day out is scandalous. It is crazy not even bothering to offer fresh fruit or the choice of a healthy meal for children.'
However, Eden Project and the Tower of London were found to break the mould.
The Tower of London offers a children's lunch box with both fruit and vegetable options, while the Eden Project does not promote junk food to children.
