Visitors to Uganda increase
25 August 2006
Visitor numbers from the UK to Uganda have increased by 26 per cent in the last year.
The East African nation primarily sells itself on its unique landscape and wildlife with safaris being high in many visitors' priorities.
Over the last five years a number of new hotels have been built to cater for the new market, for example the Apoka Safari Lodge located in the Kidepo National Park.
Tourism Uganda general manager James Bahinguza told Hotel Travel News: 'This lodge is an important development as it opens a window on the unique attractions of Uganda's north eastern circuit to the discerning traveller.'
Hotels offering spas as well as access to Uganda's national parks have also started to spring up.
Next year, Uganda will raise its profile as an international destination when it hosts the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting when prime ministers from the Commonwealth will meet along with thousands of other delegates.
