Gwyneth learns to surf
29 August 2006
Gwyneth Paltrow has been zipping up her wetsuit and learning to surf.
The Oscar-winning actress decided to take to the water not in Hawaii's Waikiki Bay or on Bondi Beach in Sydney but in Cornwall.
Paltrow was in the south-west with rock star husband Chris Martin to visit the in-laws with four-month-old baby Moses the couple's second child after Apple.
Martin, himself, is a keen surfer and was on the beach to shout encouragement.
A bystander said about Gwyneth's surfing: 'By the end of the lesson she was able to ride a wave standing upright, but only for a couple of seconds.'
Cornwall is increasingly becoming the place to head for the stars with Hugh Grant and Jemima Khan seen in the south-west last month and Kate Winslet and her husband director Sam Mendes owning a holiday home in the county.
