Hong Kong's Peak Tower prepares for reopening
30 August 2006
Hong Kong's Peak Tower is set to reopen offering unparalleled views of the entire city.
The tower will officially reopen in November, although the public will be allowed to head to the site from September.
Peak Tower is described as Hong Kong's number one tourist attraction with 50% of all foreign tourists heading there - stands on Victoria Peak or Tai Ping Shan (the Mountain of Great Peace).
The new wok-shaped building on the mountain, which overlooks Hong Kong, will contain a street market, restaurants, shops and a redesigned visitor's centre, also a gallery and space for outdoor events.
Victoria Peak is the tallest mountain on Hong Kong Island with an altitude of 552m. However, it is easily accessible from the city by a tram.
The mountain is also home to a nature park with rare birds and butterflies inhabiting the area.
