Spas down under double
30 August 2006
The number of spas in Austrailia has more than doubled in the last four years.
New research into the Australian spa industry shows there are 129% more spas on offer in the country when compared with 2002.
In total Intelligent Spas estimates there are 503 spas or hotels with spa facilities in Australia - with the growth being put down to both the rise in domestic demand and from foreign visitors wishing to unwind.
The report found that the average spa has six treatment rooms and 58% offer pools with water or air jets. Visitors should note that 65% of spas offered gender-shared relaxation rooms especially as spa treatments are becoming increasingly popular with men in Australia.
The average price of a one-hour body wrap is just over £40.
Destination spas tend to have the most facilities often including Vichy showers and Victorian spa facilities tended to be the largest.
