Abu Dhabi prepares for Ramadan
31 August 2006

With the holy month of Ramadan approaching, Abu Dhabi is encouraging visitors to experience the festival in the emirate.

Abu Dhabi - the largest of the seven emirates that form the United Arab Emirates -and its capital of the same name take on a new atmosphere during Ramadan.

Ali Al Hosani, director of marketing for Abu Dhabi Tourism explained: 'Abu Dhabi comes alive during Ramadan, especially once the sun goes down.'

He explained that visitors can experience the best Abu Dhabi has to offer during the day as the beaches are less crowded and described the period of Ramadan as 'the perfect tonic' for travellers looking for relaxation and stress reduction.

Mr Al Hosani added: 'While eating, drinking and smoking are prohibited in public areas during the daylight fasting hours, hotel restaurants remain open throughout the day.

'As soon as the sun sets, the streets of Abu Dhabi fill with the sounds of traditional Arabic music as families come together to break the fast.'

This year Ramadan runs from mid-September to mid-October.
