31 August 2006

The first ever exhibition of the works of high-couture jewellery designer Michelle Ong is to take place in Glasgow.

Hong Kong designer Ms Ong is become a favourite in Hollywood and at this year's Oscar's five stars including Kate Winslet and Glenn Close wore her creations to the ceremony and the exhibition at Glasgow's The Burrell Collection, in Pollok Country Park, will also include four pieces specifically designed for the movie The Da Vinci Code by Ms Ong's own company Carnet.

In total 100 of the designer's pieces of jewellery will be on display, alongside the 8,000 objets d'arte on permanent display from the collection of the Glasgow shipping magnate Sir William Burrell.

Ms Ong explained why she chose Glasgow to display her jewellery for the first time.

She said: 'Carnet is extremely pleased to be launching its first exhibition showcasing its artistry in jewellery design as part of a season of stylish events taking place in Glasgow.

'With the city's reputation for style and the prominence of the Burrell Collection, we believe the exhibition will be a fantastic success.'

The exhibition runs from 28 October to 10 December.
