Glasgow named best UK destination
06 September 2006

Glasgow has been named this week as the best city destination in the UK.

The Readers' Travel Awards from the magazine Conde Nast Traveller put Glasgow in first place ahead of local rival Edinburgh, which came in second.

Sarah Miller, editor of Traveller, said: 'Glasgow is the most fantastic world-class city. It has so much energy and style and its people are some of the friendliest you'll find anywhere.

'Glasgow deserves this accolade because it's worked really hard at transforming what people might once have perceived as a dour place into one of the most vibrant cultural scenes anywhere in Europe.'

Glasgow's hospitality and people were highlighted as reasons the city picked up the award along with its free art galleries and museums.

Second place Edinburgh scored well for safety and cleanliness, while London performed well for hotels and restaurants.
