Edinburgh Airport opens £19m extension
07 September 2006

A new £19m extension to Edinburgh airport opened this week.

The new pier has seen the creation of six new boarding gates, more shops and further departure lounge space for 450 extra passengers.

Richard Jeffrey, managing director of the airport, said: 'We are working hard to ensure that we are fit to meet the demands of an ever-increasing number of passengers.

'By helping to ease congestion during our busiest periods, we hope the pier will give travellers a better experience as they travel through our airport.'

The extension forms part of a £1 billion plan to double the number of passengers using the airport by 2030.

Mr Richard Jeffrey added: 'This exciting new development further strengthens the airport's foundations as a world class facility, and also supports our plans to develop further the international route network.'
