Brits still paying for their hols at Xmas
07 September 2006

One in six holidaymakers pay for their summer breaks by credit card, but many are still paying for their tan by Christmas, a new survey has found.

In total, a third of those who pay for a holiday by credit card do not expect to pay it during the first month back and one in six say they will still be making repayments come Christmas.

Two per cent of holidaymakers admitted that overspending while away would leave them still paying come next summer.

Jim Hodgkins, managing director of CreditExpert, which carried out the survey, suggested that people budget carefully before they leave and while away.

He said: 'Getting carried away and overspending a little on holiday is something nearly everyone has experienced, but the latest Personal Credit Index reveals a worrying picture of people failing to budget for their holiday costs or plan their repayments, meaning they could be repaying holiday borrowings well up to and beyond the Christmas period.'
