Listen to jazz in Iceland
14 September 2006
The Icelandic capital Reykjavík plays host to an annual jazz festival, which starts at the end of this month.
The event, which showcases the best of Nordic jazz, runs from 27 September to 1 October 2006 at a number of venues across the city centre.
The Reykjavík Jazz Festival is becoming an increasingly high-profile event on the international jazz scene, attracting some of the world's top names over the five days.
Highlights of the 2006 event include Bill Holman conducting the Reykjavik Big Band, the Tore Brunborg - Sunna Gunnlaugs Quartet, jazz lunches, and the Young Nordic Jazz Comets.
Both international and Icelandic acts have been scheduled to play this year and styles of music on offer range from contemporary jazz to Latin beat and Gospel concerts. Venues for the 2006 festival include Reykjavík City Hall, Nordic House, Kaffi Reykjavík and Qbar.
The city of Reykjavík is modern, lively and quirky, with a charming old town and surrounding lava fields, glaciers and geysers creating a hypnotic and alien landscape.
