German shopping gets easier
19 September 2006

Europe's largest city centre mall is to open in Hamburg.

The Europa Passage will offer 120 shops with 75 per cent being unique to Hamburg and adding to the city's reputation as a shopping destination.

Highlights of the shopping centre will include Europe's largest sports store Karstadt Sport and boutiques from German designers Jill Sander and Wolfgang Joop.

Europa Passage opens its doors to shoppers on 5 October with a series of events and promotions for those first to check it out.

Across Germany there are around 400 major shopping centres for those opting for a shopping break.

Metzingen, near Stuttgart, is a centre for many seeking designer goods at discount prices.

In the 1970s Hugo Boss opened his first factory outlet shop in Metzingen and since then firms such as Reebok, Joop, Strenesse, Escada, Bally and Puma have all come to the town attracting visitors from across Europe in search of bargains.
