Edward and Sophie head to the Cote d'Azur
19 September 2006

Earl and Countess of Wessex have been on the Cote d'Azur on the French Riviera to celebrate the cultural links between the area and Wales.

Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex were at Beaulieu-Sur-Mer near Nice for the town's annual festival of classical music which this year hosted top Welsh and French artists.

The Welsh musical contingent included the opera singer Rebecca Evans, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Welsh Guards Army band, standing out with their trademark bearskin hats.

The royal couple also unveiled a plaque to Prince Arthur, Queen Victoria's favourite son who was a long-term resident of Beaulieu-Sur-Mer.

As well as music, the festival also celebrated the best in food, with chefs from Wales and France cooking for guests and market stalls displaying the best fare of both regions.
