London Eye named best in world

The world's best attraction has been named as the London Eye at the World Travel Awards.

At the ceremony held in Turks and Caicos in the Caribbean, the world's best hotels, airlines and destination were honoured.

Best beach went to the hosts Turks and Caicos while the best overall destination was Orlando.

Orlando also took the gong for best theme park as Universal Studios in Florida was named the world's best.

In the eco-tourism categories the prizes went to the Tobago Main Ridge Rainforest and the El Santuario in Mexico's Valle de Bravo.

For skiing the best destination was France's St Moritz and the best resort was the Badrutt's Palace Hotel in Switzerland.

The best airline was named as British Airways, although the best airline food was served on Qatar Airways, and the best airport was Singapore Changi.

The hotel prize went to the Burj Al Arab, in Dubai, famed for its sail design and reputation for luxury.
