Travellers spending more to get real
22 September 2006

New research shows the world's richest travellers are spending more to get an authentic experience.

A survey of travel suppliers found 70 per cent said clients are turning their backs on a holiday aimed at giving them luxury and increasingly want to take authentic experiences home with them.

Almost two-thirds of travel firms also said that the most affluent travellers are demanding holidays that are more experience led and enriching.

Companies also noted that travellers are no longer demanding hi-tech facilities and the best in luxury in their priorities, but are willing to pay more to ensure authenticity.

The International Luxury Travel Market survey also revealed the super-rich are more likely to take the whole family to share their experiences often with three generations heading away together.

While usually the rest of the market follows the elite, it seems the richest travellers are now taking a tip from backpackers and are looking to meet people where they visit and not just enjoy the hotel bar and spa.
