Yorkshire's best tourist sites names
27 September 2006

Yorkshire's best tourist attractions, hotels and pubs have been honoured in the Yorkshire Tourist Board White Rose Awards.

At a ceremony at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham, the visitor attractions of the year were named as Ripley castle and York's National Railway Museum.

The Star Inn in Harome picked up the pub of the year award and the taste of Yorkshire award for the best restaurant, having already been named gastro-pub of the year by Egon Ronay.

The nearby Feversham Arms Hotel, in the north Yorkshire town of Helmsley, also took the award for best hotel.

Jacquie Pern, who runs the Star Inn, told the Press: 'I have been doing this for ten years now, so these awards are a great way to celebrate our decade.

'It's wonderful to see so many North Yorkshire winners - it's a real vote of confidence in the area. The region is getting better and better for tourism, and the more good places there are, the more people we will attract. It also means we can all work together to improve even further.'

The award for best tourism experience of the year was shared by the Magna Science Adventure Centre and UK Bungee Club, both in Rotherham.
