More baggage confusion
02 October 2006
Last week's relaxation of baggage rules at airports in the UK was supposed to make things easier to understand, but it seems it has just added more confusion to an already complicated situation.
Britain's leading airport operator has reportedly been giving out conflicting information depending on which airport is being used, reports the Independent.
The Department for Transport (DfT) decided that from 22 September the maximum size of a piece of hand luggage would be 56cm in length, 45cm in width and 25cm in depth.
BAA is telling passengers travelling through Heathrow and Gatwick that these rules must be adhered to, but those travelling from smaller airports are being told something different.
Passengers using Stansted airport are being given leaflets which say their hand luggage must be no bigger than 55cm in length, 40cm in width and 20cm in depth.
Despite the confusion a BAA spokesperson insists: 'We're trying to get a complex message through as simply as possible.'
