Woosnam's wife barred from flight
03 October 2006
The wife of Ryder Cup winning captain Ian Woosnam was turned away from a flight to Barbados because she was deemed unfit to travel.
Mrs Woosnam, whose husband recently captained Europe to victory over the USA in the Ryder Cup golf tournament, said she had been at a party the night before arriving at Gatwick airport.
She admitted that she could not stand up properly when she was attempting to board the flight and said she felt airport staff acted correctly.
'I was partying with friends the evening before my flight,' she said. 'I took medication to help me on the long flight. I definitely felt a bit woozy as I checked in.'
Mrs Woosnam was refused entry onto a British Airways flight. The company has rules regarding drunk passengers which are designed to protect other customers and the company's staff.
After being denied access, Mrs Woosnam said she had 'no doubt that [British Airways] took the right decision' in not letting her onto the flight.
