Airport sells seized items
03 October 2006

Georgia airport in Canada is selling items which have been seized by security staff.

Among the belongings which never made it to their intended destinations are some rather peculiar objects which may not normally be associated with air travel, reports website Cnews.ca.

A set of steel dental picks were seized by security staff and, rather bizarrely, were quickly snapped up during the sale.

Thousands of items have been put up for auction in a bid to raise money for the state of Georgia.

Among them are a number of butcher knives and even a chainsaw, which someone inexplicably tried to get onto an aeroplane.

'We still have a few knives, but they've been going quickly,' said Steve Ekin, director of the Georgia Surplus Property Division.

'I saw people walking out of here with handfuls. The infamous chainsaw is gone. I saw it go out with the circular saw.'

A similar sale takes place each month in the state, with thousands of discarded or confiscated items making their way from the airport to designated shops.
