Phuket resort gets Green Globe status
05 October 2006
Evason Phuket has become the only resort in south sast Asia to achieve Green Globe Certified status.
The resort has been rewarded under the Green Globe Certification Programme, which recognises commitment to operating at the world's highest environmental standards.
Evason Phuket had to pass a number of categories in order to achieve its new status, including water usage, waste management and energy efficiency.
Before the resort became certified, a rigorous onsite assessment was carried out an auditor who had been approved by the Green Globe.
The resort passed the assessment and can now boast that it is certified by the Green Globe.
It means people that visit will know that environmental sustainability is high on the agenda for the resort's owners.
'I am delighted that Evason Phuket achieved certified status,' said Cathy Parsons, from Green Globe Asia Pacific.
'It is an inspiration to all those people committed to environmentally sustainable tourism.
'They have demonstrated through a variety of initiatives, that the business and its employees can make a difference to reducing their environmental impact,' she added.
