06 October 2006
Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has won a major honour at the World Travel Awards (WTA).
For the second year running it picked up the Middle East's leading beach resort award.
The announcement was made at a glittering ceremony on the islands of Turks & Caicos and the resort manager is delighted with the recognition.
'This award is even more significant and valuable to us because the world travel industry has acknowledged us for the second year in a row in the same category, a testament to the outstanding resort experience we have to offer the global tourism market,' said Patrick Antaki, general manager at Le Meridien Al Aqah Beach Resort.
'Stunning natural surroundings, the highest levels of service and an unparalleled leisure offering all combine to make Al Aqah worthy of an award of such high calibre and I share this with the whole team whose tireless dedication has made all this possible.'
The WTAs are widely regarded as the leading awards for tourism in the world and the winners are voted for by 167,000 travel professionals.
The awards take into consideration the opinions of people from over 190 countries.
