Nepal visitors down
09 October 2006

The number of tourists visiting Nepal during September fell, according to the Nepal Tourism Board.

Figures show that visitor numbers were down by 7.4% in 2006, compared to the same period last year.

In total, there were 25,484 fewer arrivals during September, with markets from across the world showing a dip.

The number of European visitors fell by 2.8%, although France, Germany and Spain all offered an increased number of tourists.

Asia showed the largest drop in tourist numbers, with 54.5% fewer Bangladeshi visitors and 13.8% fewer Chinese.

Although the figures appear to be bad news for tourism in Nepal, there has been some good news in that hotels and airlines in the country have reported an increase in bookings.

Concerns over safety and security have had a detrimental effect on visitor numbers in Nepal in the past.
