Maldives gains cool status

The Maldives has been awarded a top honour among the younger generation by being named as a CoolBrand.
The 1,190 coral islands that make up the Maldives have been voted as one of the coolest brands in the world by a team of British style gurus.
Commended for having 'become extremely desirable among many style leaders and influencers', the Maldives was given the honour at an exclusive CoolLive event in London.
British celebrities and those in the know, such as designer Ben de Lisi and Dazed & Confused editor Nicki Bidder, voted for the islands along with many members of the British public.
Speaking about the awards, the chairman of the CoolBrands Council, Stephen Cheliotis, said those awarded 'have a magic about them, signifying that users have a sense of taste and style.'
It is not the first time the Maldives has received an award for its popularity as a holiday destination after it was awarded Conde Nast's Traveller's Reader Award' for Best Island.
