London City Airport bought
11 October 2006

London City Airport has been bought by a US consortium.

The hub, situated in east London and with fantastic links to the city, has announced that an agreement has been signed to hand control over to the group.

Morgan Stanley led the sales process and there has been a flurry of interest from international investors.

The intention to look into selling the hub was signalled in May 2006 and since then many offers have been tabled.

It has not been disclosed exactly how much money has traded hands for the airport, but it is clear that the price reflects the buyer's confidence in the airport's future prospects.

London City Airport has said that it believes it will be working closely with its new owners in order to maximise and develop the future value of the hub.

The deal is expected to close in November of this year after it has received EU merger clearance.
