China tourism drive
11 October 2006
Chinese officials are to meet with their European counterparts in a bid to increase tourism opportunities in the country.
A conference is to be held in London which will look at bilateral tourism relations during the World Travel Market 2006 in November.
The conference, entitled China the Future of Travel, will bring together government and industry figures and will look into how business can be conducted between the two.
'Despite the fact that China is forecast to become the world's top tourist destination and the major tourist source market by 2020, much around China's tourism industry remains shrouded in mystery," said the managing director of World Travel market Fiona Jeffery.
'That is why this conference is crucial to professionals wanting to gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities and how to go about conducting business with the Chinese.
'This is a conference and a subject which no one in travel and tourism can afford to ignore,' she added.
A delegation of Chinese decision-makers will attend the conference on 6 November as the country seeks to exploit its growing appeal as a tourist destination.
