Stansted's security drive
13 October 2006
Stansted Airport is improving security by launching a large-scale employment drive.
Around 160 new security staff will be brought in to help the airport's current employees keep the standards which they have displayed in the past.
'Since 10 August this year, when the Department for Transport introduced unprecedented levels of security at all UK airports, we have faced some of our biggest challenges ever to ensure the new requirements were fully implemented with as little disruption to passengers as possible,' said Mark Murphy, Stansted's customer services director.
'Our staff have worked tirelessly to ensure the terminal has continued to operate as effectively as possible during these difficult times.
'These new positions will further bolster the security teams we have in place as the safety and security of every passenger using Stansted will always be our top priority,' he added.
All potential employees will undergo a series of tests to ensure that they are up to the job of ensuring the safety of passengers passing through the hub.
The airport has also revealed that each applicant will have background checks carried out by the government before they can begin work.
