Southampton's accessibility award
13 October 2006
Southampton Airport has been given a Gold Award in the Eastleigh Borough Council's Accessibility Awards.
The airport was commended for its levels of customer service and accessibility and was awarded one of only 25 Gold Awards.
The scheme looked at 300 businesses and judging was carried out by students from Barton Peveril College in Eastleigh, along with staff from Eastleigh Shopmobility.
'I am very pleased to see that the high standards of care and help are being maintained throughout the local area and at Southampton Airport,' said chair of the Eastleigh Area Committee, councillor Chris Thomas.
'Eastleigh has a first class track record when it comes to making people welcome and the airport supports and enhances this image further.'
Southampton Airport was rated in the top 8% of all the organisations that were assessed and the staff are understandably proud of their achievement.
'We are absolutely thrilled to have been given the Gold Award for such an important aspect of our business,' said Jan Halliday, director of communications at the airport.
'As a gateway for the region, we feel it is especially important to maintain high standards in accessibility and customer service when welcoming people to the area.'
