Malaysia awards
17 October 2006

Malaysia has received a number of top honours at two high-profile tourism events.

The country was honoured at the Incentive Travel and Conventions Meetings Asia (IT&CMA) show and the 17th Travel Trade Gazette (TTG) Annual Travel Awards 2006.

Malaysia's stand at the IT&CMA show was awarded for being the most popular national booth present, reports the Bernama news agency.

At the TTG awards ceremony, which was held in Pattaya in Thailand, Tourism Malaysia was named Best National Tourism Organisation.

Director general of Tourism Malaysia, Mirza Mohammad Taiyab, accepted the award and highlighted that it was fitting the country should receive it as preparations are being carried out for the celebration of Visit Malaysia Year.

The festivities will take place in 2007 and the country is expecting a huge increase in the number of tourists visiting the country.

The TTG awards are the most prestigious awards in the Asia-Pacific region and votes are cast by the magazine's readers.
