A study uncovering the decline of the dirty weekend could serve as a clarion call to couples.
According to the survey from Teletext Holidays, two-thirds of British couples haven't taken advantage of a free weekend in the past year, and a quarter have never had a dirty weekend at all.
But the allure of indoor sports could rocket as the weather cools outside and couples survey the array of undiscovered love nests at home and abroad.
Patrons of the Pelirocco in Brighton must have no qualms about plunging in at the deep end - a themed bondage room for 1950s idol Betty Page features leopard-print bed with handcuffs attached.
Less masochistic lovers might prefer to admire the view in the Bubble room, where a circular bed offers a splendid vantage point for a circular mirror suspended above.
At the aptly-named Hotel in Lucerne, arty (erotic) classic film stills are frescoed on the ceilings.
Women enraptured by classic serials can experiment in historic re-enactment at the picturesquely situated Combe House in Devon, where four-posters beckon.
