Concorde to return?
23 October 2006
Travellers all over the world must have thought that they had seen the last of the great supersonic passenger jet Concorde.
However, the Anglo-French jet may yet make a return to our skies as a campaign group is lobbying to see it fly again at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The Save Concorde Group (SCG) wants to raise £15m in order to see the plane take to the sky adorned in the colours of British Airways.
Since 2003, when the jet was effectively decommissioned, the only place to see Concorde has been in museums both in the UK and France.
However, SCG is putting forward a case to have the plane brought back to life and more than 30,000 people have signed a petition to see it made airworthy again.
A number of MPs from both Britain and Europe have given their support to the plans and SCG hopes to see Concorde mark the opening of the 2012 Olympic Games with a flyover flanked by the Red Arrows.
